1st phase
Research & Planning
Almost five years of research and planning went into shaping the foundation of the project. During this time, key concepts, technical requirements, and system designs were developed to make inductive charging on highways a practical and reliable reality.
2nd Phase
Installation on construction site
Over the course of one month, the inductive charging coils were installed directly into the highway in Bavaria. Every step, from embedding the coils to connecting the infrastructure, was carefully executed to ensure a seamless and fully functional system ready for real-world testing.
3rd phase
Opening
The newly installed inductive charging system was officially inaugurated, marking the milestone moment when the highway became fully operational for demonstration purposes. This event highlighted the collaboration of all project partners and showcased the innovation in action.
4th Phase
Testing & Evaluation
After the official opening, specialized vehicles were used to test the inductive charging system under real driving conditions. Performance, efficiency, and safety were thoroughly evaluated, providing valuable data to optimize the technology and prepare for future large-scale deployment.

Project E|MPOWER
Driving the Transition
On a one-kilometer highway section in Bavaria, inductive charging coils embedded in the road make this possible – developed and manufactured by our team in Nuremberg, in close collaboration with the other partner companies driving this project forward.
The E|MPOWER project demonstrates how electric vehicles can charge wirelessly while driving.
The project has been made possible through the collaboration of all participating partner companies:
